An order has been sitting for a day and nothing has happened to it. There are four usual explanations.
Its task is on hold
Section titled “Its task is on hold”Hold means someone paused a task part-way rather than finishing it. Held work is not in anybody’s queue — it will never be picked up by the next person free, and it does not appear as available work anywhere.
Check: the Hold tab of the relevant task queue, or the On hold count on the warehouse dashboard.
Fix: open the task and either finish it or work out what is blocking it. See short picks and other problems.
Making a habit of checking the Hold tab daily is what stops this happening at all.
The order is not paid
Section titled “The order is not paid”Fiftify creates a pick task when an order is ready to be fulfilled. An unpaid order is not, so no task exists and nothing is stuck — it is waiting, correctly.
Check: the order’s payment status. See order statuses.
There is not enough stock
Section titled “There is not enough stock”A pick task cannot complete for stock that is not on the shelf. Where a product is short, the order waits.
Check: the product’s stock by bin, and whether the pick was reported short.
This is also what replenishment rules exist to prevent: a pick face that empties mid-shift stops several orders at once.
Nobody has been assigned
Section titled “Nobody has been assigned”A task with no assignee, in a warehouse using directed workflow, is waiting for a supervisor to hand it out.
Check: the Unassigned cards on the outbound board, and Workforce for who is free.
See task queues and assignment.
Reading the chain
Section titled “Reading the chain”When none of the above fits, work along the chain rather than around it. Each stage creates the next:
paid order → pick → pack → label → ship
Find the last stage that completed. The problem is in the step immediately after it, not further down.
Common questions
- Why has my order not moved for a day?
- Almost always one of four things: its task is on hold, the order is not paid, the stock is not on the shelf, or nobody has been assigned. Held work in particular never reaches anyone's queue on its own.
- What does putting a task on Hold actually do?
- It means someone paused the task part-way instead of finishing it. Held work is not offered to the next person free and does not appear as available work anywhere, so somebody has to pick it up deliberately.
- Why was no pick task created for my order?
- Fiftify creates a pick task once an order is ready to be fulfilled, and an unpaid order is not. Nothing is stuck — it is waiting correctly until payment lands.
- How do I find the stage where an order stopped?
- Follow the chain in order: paid order, pick, pack, label, ship. Find the last stage that completed; the problem is in the step immediately after it, not further down.
