Buy Label is greyed out on the pack screen, or buying one fails.
No carrier account is connected
Section titled “No carrier account is connected”The usual cause on a new company. Without a carrier there is nothing to buy from, and Fiftify says as much under Settings → Shipping & Delivery:
No carrier accounts yet. Connect one to start buying labels.
Fix: Add Carrier, with credentials from the carrier or from an aggregator such as ShipEngine, EasyPost, or Shippo. See carriers and delivery methods.
The order is not a carrier shipment
Section titled “The order is not a carrier shipment”Local delivery and store pickup have no label by design. The packer gets a delivery slip or a pickup slip instead, and the button is absent rather than broken.
Check: the order’s delivery method. If it should have been a carrier shipment, the classification came from the channel and needs correcting there.
The parcel has no weight or dimensions
Section titled “The parcel has no weight or dimensions”A carrier rates a shipment from its weight and size. Without them there is nothing to rate.
Two places supply those numbers:
- The package type carries its own dimensions and empty weight — see package types.
- Each product carries its weight — see create and edit a product.
A product with no weight means every parcel containing it has to be weighed by hand at the bench. Filling weights in once removes that step for good.
The warehouse address is missing or rough
Section titled “The warehouse address is missing or rough”Carriers rate from an origin address. A warehouse with no address, or one that does not resolve, produces failures or wrong prices.
Fix: Settings → Warehouses → (warehouse) → Details → Address.
The label buys but prints wrong
Section titled “The label buys but prints wrong”That is a printer problem, not a carrier one. A bought label prints exactly as the carrier made it, at the carrier label size set for the warehouse — 4” × 6” or US Letter.
If barcodes will not scan, the print head resolution is set to the wrong value for that printer. Run the test print. See print templates and labels.
Common questions
- Why is the Buy Label button greyed out?
- Usually because no carrier account is connected yet, so there is nothing to buy a label from. Local delivery and store pickup orders also have no label by design — the packer gets a delivery or pickup slip instead.
- What does Fiftify need before a carrier can rate a shipment?
- A connected carrier, a package type with dimensions, a weight on each product, and a resolvable address on the warehouse the parcel ships from. Carriers rate from weight, size and origin, so a gap in any of those causes failures or wrong prices.
- Why does my team have to weigh every parcel by hand?
- Because the products inside it have no weight recorded. Filling product weights in once removes the weighing step at the packing bench for good.
- The label buys fine but the barcode will not scan. What is wrong?
- That is a printer setting rather than a carrier problem: the print head resolution is wrong for that printer. Run the test print, and check the carrier label size set for the warehouse.
